D-9 (Digital-S)

Originally known as Digital-S, it was given the designation D-9 by SMPTE in the spring of 1999. D-9 uses a 50 Mbps compression scheme which has been widely recognised by the engineering community as the blueprint for digital production and broadcasting.

Taking advantage of our experience and leadership in 1/2" tape and transport technology, JVC formulated a unique 1/2" tape that permits the recording of a vast amount of data and offers additional strength and reliability. The metal particle tape used by all D-9 products offers an unbeatable combination of high performance and reliability, supported by powerful error correction that can even replace missing data in the unlikely event of a tape dropout. Even with a clogged head D-9 may continue to play back high-quality images.

Up to 124 minutes of recording is possible with a single tape and the high durability of the tape itself means that it can be reused several hundred times without noticeable performance deterioration - making D-9 an even more economical choice. In addition to a 124-minute D-9 cassette, JVC's robust line of dustproof D-9 cassettes also includes lengths of 10, 34, 64 and 104 minutes. D-9 tapes are available from JVC Professional Dealers.

Hard Disk Drive Recorders

DR-DV5000

In line with video recording trends, JVC Professional launched in 2003 a professional Hard Disk Recorder DR-DV5000 which docks with JVC's 1/2" GY-DV5000 series DV camcorders. This proved popular amongst video professionals, giving recording security in parallel with DV tape, as well as many hours of continuous recording.

DR-HD100E

The latest JVC Hard Disk Recorder has been designed to record both HDV and DV. It is available in two versions, 40GB and 80GB capacity. Unlike DR-DV5000 the disk itself is not removable.

Hard Disk Drive Recorders
